Dubai Police unveils SWAT vehicle

Dubai Police SWAT (Special Weapons Attack Team) unveiled a new specially designed operations vehicle at the Word Police Summit on March 9.

The UAE-made Giath SWAT SUVs were described as game changers, the vehicles include smoke grenade launchers, multiple weapons holsters, and state-of-the-art command and control technology.

“It provides officers with the best tools and technology available to keep the city safe and secure,” said Major Omar Arif Al Khaja head of engineering and innovation at Dubai Police’s general department of transport and rescue.

The SWAT SUVs feature a 360-degree camera with pan, tilt, and zoom capabilities as well as armoured doors, advanced communications systems, and bulletproof windows.

Furthermore, the vehicle utilises a built-in tracking system that allows command and control to be continuously aware of the vehicle’s location in addition to 11 cameras inside and outside of the car.

“Ghiath is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including advanced surveillance systems and a powerful engine that can tackle any terrain and will provide SWAT officers with increased mobility and more protection during high-risk operations,” Major Al Khaja said.

The SWAT SUV can holster four MP7 guns, one M16 rifle, and one shotgun, as well as space for Taser guns and charges.

Key exterior features of the SWAT SUV also include two military-grade infrared LED illumination systems for night vision command and control, a discreet infrared tracking light, and two rear-mounted side capsules.

The interior includes facial recognition technology, driver-activated security cameras, deployed GPS tracking, and instant call to control.

W Motors will deliver the first vehicles in the second quarter of 2023, Dubai Police said, and will feature a dedicated assembly line for the GHIATH, with approximately 1,000 vehicles scheduled to be produced annually.

Dubai Police first deployed Giath smart patrol units in 2022 with 10 in service. A total of 400 Ghiath patrol cars will be introduced by 2027.

The Ghiath SUV is designed by UAE-based W Motors. The Ghiath Smart Patrol introduced in 2022 holds a 360-degree deployable periscope camera plus eight exterior surveillance cameras with facial and license plate recognition systems enabled.

Founded in 2012, W Motors’ car production plant, located in Dubai Silicon Oasis, is the first of its kind in the Middle East and will become the production center for the company’s growing range of next-generation vehicles, including limited-series supercars, electric and self-driving models, as well as security patrols.
